Arthur C. Clarke work inspires DARPA project

DARPA is working on a new weapon, the Magneto Hydrodynamic Explosive Munition (MAHEM), which uses electromagnets to accelerate a jet of molten metal (as opposed to the solid projectile of a railgun). The concept strongly resembles the “Stiletto” from Arthur C. Clarke’s 1955 SF novel Earthlight.
