I’m surprised…

There is news in the tragic case of Madeline Neumann: Marathon County District Attorney Jill Falstad has announced that the Neumanns will be charged with second-degree reckless homicide. If convicted, they will face up to 25 years in prison.
I’m surprised by this. I figured that the DA would decline to press charges, as I don’t see much chance of the Neumanns being convicted. The way I see it, the defense will play for sympathy: “these poor, poor parents just lost their beloved daughter.” Then they will argue that this is just ‘evil secularists’ persecuting them for being Christian. Considering that juries are made out of those who aren’t smart enough to get out of jury duty, I figure these will be enough to get an acquittal.
