Apparently the Japanese are seeing a similar trend to one here in the U.S. in declining numbers of students entering technology and engineering fields. Dubbed “rikei banare” (“flight from science”), the trend began almost 20 years ago, but is now beginning to noticeably affect Japanese hi-tech companies. The New York Times has an article discussing the trend and the reactions to it.
