According to a physorg.com article, Harvard University engineers have constructed a room-temperature, semiconductor source of coherent terahertz radiation. Terahertz radiation is electromagnetic radiation in the frequency range 300 GHz – 3 THz, corresponding to the submillimeter wavelength band (1 mm – 100 µm) between microwaves and far-infrared. These have a number of potential uses in medicine, security, communications, and scientific imaging.
